Visayas Wins SMB National
Beer Drinking Finals

San Miguel Pale Pilsen culminated its 2008 National Beer Drinking Contest in the queen city of the south, Cebu last October 24 during the height of the Oktoberfest fever.

The group from Visayas basked under the homecourt advantage to win the title as it beat a host of five other strongest five-man teams from a total of 19,500 groups across the country.

The Visayans won the P500,000-grand prize while the second and third placers, meanwhile, received P200,000 and P100,000 respectively.

“This is SMB’s 9th year of nourishing friendships and cultivating teamwork among our kababayans through this competition. We hope, too, that the financial rewards will contribute to our contestants’ enjoyment of life,” says SMB National Sales Manager Debbie D. Namalata.

The National Beer Drinking Finals featured other activities designed to bring the trademark SMB fiesta spirit to the contest venues. The efforts, aimed at encouraging people to take time to enjoy life and spread the fun, form part of SMB’s new slogan, “Drink to Life.”

The event was a three-day celebration staged at the MEZ1 Football Field, Lapu-lapu City in Cebu. At the contest proper held at the 24th, popular bands Rivermaya and Brownman Revival joined local bands for the grand celebration.
