SMB Extends Help To Butuan Farmers

Fifty five cooperative-member farmers of the St. Gabriel Multi-purpose Cooperative in Brgy. Tiniwisan, Butuan City recently benefited from San Miguel Brewery Inc.'s (SMB) three-year farmers' livelihood assistance project, dubbed as "Sarap Mag Basak". The project is seen to boost the recipients' earnings and expand the farmers' lots.

During the recent turn-over ceremony and cooperative assembly, San Miguel Brewery Inc. Caraga Territory Sales Manager Celso Minosa stressed that "a hands- on approach, tapat na pakikisama, pagmamahal sa trabaho at serbisyong totoo" will bring new hope to improve the lives of the farmers.

In response, St. Gabriel Multi-purpose Cooperative Chairman Sol Tabelon said, "We are happy that we now have a reliable partner in SMB . As long as we work hard, progress is in our hands. Let us continue doing good things for a better future."

Post-harvest facilities and farm implements gobble up a substantial chunk of rice harvests in the Philippines. Lack of technology has been the bane of farmers in certain parts of Northern Mindanao.

As an income augmentation project, SMB's "Sarap Mag Basak" now brings hope to farmers whose crops were once infested by plant hoppers and have experienced problems on low prices and unscrupulous traders.

By striking roots in South Philippines decades ago, San Miguel Brewery Inc. continues to deepen its corporate social commitment to the region. This vision, expressed in "Kaubanan", (mutual partnership) , can only redound to the benefit of Mindanaoans.
