SMB Opens Off-Site Clinic For The Needy

Poverty-stricken residents of Brgy. Darong, Sta. Cruz, Davao del Sur will now enjoy access to free medical services round-the-year with the inauguration of an off-site clinic put up by San Miguel Brewery Inc. (SMB).

Dubbed as the SMB Community Clinic – Specialized Medical Services, the diagnostic center, which is located at the heart of Brgy. Darong will house a medical team headed by a medical doctor to ensure the wellness of indigent residents who lack the means in seeking medical attention. Free medicines will also be provided to the patients.

Expected to benefit around 200 patients every month, the SMB Community clinic signifies the company’s commitment to support the Department of Health’s nationwide program and the local government unit’s initiative to make medical services reach far-flung areas in the country.

San Miguel Brewery Inc. general manager Roberto N. Huang said that the project is the company’s small way of giving back to the community which has been home to its Davao Brewery for 13 years now.

“The community clinic took off from the initiatives of our mother company, San Miguel Corporation with the guidance of Mr. Ramon S. Ang, our company president. We at SMB are serious in living up San Miguel’s commitment in reaching out to the community where we operate,” Huang said during the launch of the off-site clinic.

“We want to be able to help in preventing diseases, possibly extend a dosage of cure, and help create a healthy community. And with the Company’s genuine concern in healthcare, we pursued the establishment of a specialized clinic catering to our less fortunate brothers and sisters in Brgy. Darong,” Huang added.

With the recent increase in the prices of food commodities, medicines and other basic needs of the people, Darong Brgy. Capt. Ranulfo Tumala, Jr. underscores that health is one of the more immediate concerns of his constituents.

The SMB off-site clinic is spearheaded by the San Miguel Brewery Inc. – Davao Brewery and the San Miguel Foundation, Inc., in coordination with the Brgy. Council of Darong, Barangay Health unit, and the local government unit and health agency of Sta. Cruz.
